ULTRAMAN is a 2011 manga written by Eiichi Shimizu and drawn by Tomohiro Shimoguchi of Kurogane no Linebarrel fame which serves as the sequel of the 1966 Ultraman television series. As of August 20, 2016, the series has been collected in 12 volumes consisting of 66 chapters.
A 3DCG anime adaptation co-produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts was released on Netflix on April 1, 2019. The series has been renewed for a second season, which is currently in production.
Set in a different continuity than that of what already established in Ultra Series, the manga focuses on Shinjiro Hayata, son of Shin Hayata, the former host and partner of the legendary Giant of Light Ultraman himself. Ultraman himself has long departed from Earth following the completion of his mission in protecting the planet. Following his departure, mankind joins Star Cluster Alliance to prevent future invasions and kaiju attacks. When a new alien threat arises, Shinjiro discovered the Giant of Light's legacy in form of strange powers he inherited through his father due to the latter's merging with his Ultraman partner long ago, leading him to fight as the new Ultraman...
