Mitsukuni Shizuma, the founder of Sizuma Foundation, had found evidence of a dark power that would return and threaten the Earth. He worked to unite the governments of the world and formed the TPU in response to that. GUTS-Select is a team of experts within the TPU's Japan branch and headquarters, specializing in anti-monster operations. Their engineer, Akito Hijiri, invented all their equipment.

Kengo Manaka[]

- Portrayed by: Raiga Terasaka
The Hero of the series. Kengo Manaka was born and raised on the now-colonized Mars, and worked as a botanist under the Sizuma Foundation. However, his peaceful life suddenly comes to an end one fateful day. The darkness that the ancient civilization sealed away breathes once more! As a monster bears down on the Martian settlement, Kengo's fate leads him to a chance encounter. A chance encounter with none-other than the sleeping Giant of Light. With a sociable, kind, and hard-working personality, he has a fiery sense of justice that compels him to fight to protect humanity’s smiling faces.
- All-Loving Hero: Wants to make everyone smile and has the passion to protect their smiles.
- Catchphrase: "Smile, smile!"
- Expy: To Yusuke Godai, both are protagonists who transform into a hero with ancient powers and want to protect the smiles of people.
- Genki Guy: He's a botanist with a cheerful, upbeat, and happy-go lucky personality.
- Nice Guy: A very laidback, helpful and good-hearted person who wants to make everyone smile and protect life.
- Shout-Out: His Catchphrase above originally belonged to Saki Rouyama/Go-On Yellow.
- Talking to Plants: He always talks and cares with a special plant he calls R'lyeh.
Yuna Shizuma[]

- Portrayed by: Runa Toyoda
The daughter of Mitsukuni Shizuma, the founder of the Shizuma Foundation and one of the founding members of the TPU, Yuna has received a privileged education from a young age. She contributes to the expert team in a myriad of ways in their fight against monster attacks.
- Action Girl: The only female member of GUTS-Select to be on the front line whereas Himari pilots the GUTS-Falcon from the Nursedessei.
- Apocalypse Maiden: She has no idea that she is the reincarnation of Yuzare, the guardian of the Eternity Core that the Dark Giants are after.
- Armor-Piercing Slap: Hands Darrgon one that's enough to flinch him for a second before the Dark Giant is shoved away by Akito.
- Locked Out of the Loop: She is unaware of Yuzare's spirit laying dormant inside her, and Mitsukuni has to entrust Kengo and Akito to keep it a secret from her.
- Split Personality: Yuzare is one for her, and takes over if Yuna is endangered.
- Wake Up, Go to School, Save the World: Due to still being a high schooler she has to juggle between school life and as an officer of GUTS-Select.

Akito Hijiri[]

- Portrayed by: Shunya Kaneko
The team's prodigy genius. Akito designed and developed many of the items and equipment used by GUTS-Select, including the GUTS Sparklence and GUTS Hyper Keys. Valued for his uncommon talents by the chairman of the Sizuma Foundation, Mitsukuni Shizuma, Akito works as a genius engineer while attending the same high school as Mitsukuni's daughter, Yuna Shizuma, who he grew up with and has a slight crush on. He is considered Kengo Manaka's rival.
- Berserk Button:
- Threatening Yuna in any way is a surefire way to invoke his wrath.
- The mere sight of Deathdrago is also enough to make Akito go ballistic, so much so he disobeys orders to get payback against the monster that killed his parents.
- Catchphrase: "Save it."
- Child Prodigy: Episode 5 reveals that even as a child he was a scientific genius who helped his parents and Mr. Shizuma develop a GUTS Wing unit.
- Childhood Friends: With Yuna, having grown up alongside her and being raised by her father.
- Composite Character: Akito is basically Horii and Yazumi, who are The Smart Guys of their team, with Fujimiya's personality, right down to the rivalry with the protagonist.
- Dark and Troubled Past: His parents perished during Deathdrago's attack six years prior, this traumatized him and helped shaped him into the cold and distant person he is nowadays.
- Green-Eyed Monster: The only reason why he resents Kengo that he was chosen to become the Giant of Light and was heavily frustrated to find out he wasn't the one chosen for that purpose.
- Happily Adopted: After losing his parents during the Deathdrago incident six years ago, Chairman Shizuma takes Akito in as his adoptive son and has since lived together with Yuna.
- Jerkass: The only GUTS-Select member to be openly hostile and unpleasant towards Kengo...
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: ...until Mitsukuni has to talk him out of it. Underneath his hostility to Kengo, he actually cares for the well-being of his friends.
- The Resenter: The fact Kengo was chosen to become Ultraman Trigger is what made him upset the most.
- The Rival: To Kengo.
- The Spock: He's the team's prodigy genius and shaping up to be the perfect Foil for Kengo.
Tesshin Sakuma[]

- Portrayed by: Tadashi Mizuno
The Hot-Blooded pilot of the battleship Nursedessei. He is a hot-blooded fitness nut who has a poor sense of personal space, but isn't the type to emphasize hierarchical relationships among the team.
- The Big Guy: He's one of two oldest members of the team, as well as the muscle.
- Big Brother Instinct: Gives off this vibe when it comes to new recruits like Kengo.
- Dumb Muscle: Less emphasis on the "dumb" part.
- Leeroy Jenkins: When Ignis barges inside the Nurdessei, Tesshin takes his chance to charge against the bounty hunter alien without missing a beat, and gets easily beaten and stunned for his troubles.
Himari Nanase[]

- Portrayed by: Meiku Hirukawa
The operator of the GUTS-Falcon, who pilots it remotely from the Nursedessei. While she is usually calm and collected, her personality changes to a passionate one when she puts on her VR goggles to pilot the GUTS Falcon.
- Ace Pilot: Technically, she pilots the GUTS-Falcon from the Nursedessei while donning her VR Goggles.
- Not So Stoic: Himari is described as a woman with a few words... That is only if she's on the GUTS Falcon's controls, she goes into a full-blown video game addict-like state.
Seiya Tatsumi[]

- Portrayed by: Katsuya Takagi
The Captain of the team, he efficiently leads the entire crew with their different personalities using his balance of kindness and strictness.
- Authority Equals Asskicking: He's GUTS-Select's commander, calm and collected even when under pressure, and is able to be at Ignis's equal at hand-to-hand combat.
- Badass Beard: Sports a goatee and serves as the leader of a counter-monster task force.
- The Captain: Of GUTS-Select.
- Composite Character: Takes on both Munakata and Iruma's leadership roles in this series.
- Da Chief: He is the team's charismatic leader in charge, who ensures the team saves the day.
- Nerves of Steel: Even as his base is taken over by the Dada virus, he mantains a calm demeanor as the team makes sure to purge out the invaders.
- Team Dad: The eldest member of the team sans Tesshin and the most mature, he usually takes a parental approach to his authority towards his teammates.
- Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right: When given orders by the government to distrust Trigger, he decides to go against it and with some convincing from the other members to help the Giant of Light against Hudram. Even Chairman Shizuma agrees with that.

Alien Metron Marluru[]

- Voiced by: M·A·O (aka, Mao Ichimichi)
A wandering alien from Planet Metron who came to Earth shortly after the establishment of the Terrestrial Peaceable Union (TPU). Marluru has a wealth of knowledge on intergalactic monsters, and is assigned as operator for Expert Team GUTS-Select. Despite the cute and cuddly appearance, has a razor sharp tongue.
- Ambiguous Gender: Marluru's gender has faced inconsistency as they have been called a "she", a "he" and a "they" by differing sources even though being voiced by a female seiyuu. So much so that the Ultraman Wiki had trouble with dealing the problem. Until there's further clarification, Marluru will have to referred by using the gender-neutral "they".
- Berserk Button: Hates being called "cute".
- Mission Control: Is the one giving the team heads-up in regards to the Monster of the Week they encounter.
- Mythology Gag: The seven on their coat resembles the Eye Slugger. Doesn't help that this is the second instance that a younger re-interpretation of one of the iconic alien races from Ultraseven, the first one being Pega.
- Token Mini-Moe: Compared to his adult teammates he's a short kid member.
- Token Non-Human: The only alien of the team serving as Mission Control.
