I could have sworn I saw this trope somewhere on this site before.
Maybe the trope was unpopular, or maybe it just has a weird name and thus is hard to find, but man, the familiarity vibes are overpowering!
... Or maybe I'm just having vague memories of an old Trope Workshop entry that died long ago. Or perhaps in The Great Crash.
