  • Alternate Character Interpretation: One child's Batman Gambit to save his mom from Hell.
  • Narm: For some, the intro may be too sickly sweet. After Chris and Annie have their Meet Cute, it jumps straight to their wedding, with the two laughing over her slipping briefly. Then, they have the kids, Ian and Marie, playing and even MORE laughing with the waterhose, and everything it’s shot in an overwhelmingly, colourful, whimsical fashion, to the point of self-parody.
  • While the scene itself is sad, Chris’s hammy delivery and facial expressions while yelling “I LOVE HER!” to an oblivious Annie as the Jacaranda tree petals fall, can make him look like he’s either constipated or has crazy eyes.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Even though Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra both give fine performances, Chris and Annie don’t have much chemistry with each other, with most of their dialogue being overly flowery declarations of love, jokes, etc, with their life during their dating and marriage being very rushed and coming off too saccharine to feel believable, especially when the film implies that they are both soulmates and will reincarnate together to have another romance.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: We’re supposed to see Chris and Annie reincarnating and leaving their kids in Heaven for an new life on Earth as a happy ending, yet they don’t even let them know about it, the reincarnation aspect comes out of nowhere and the story acts like Chris could’ve just done it all along, and the two are way too blasé about abandoning their children, especially since they got to at least live full lives, while their children died young. The alternate ending does have Marie/Leona explain that Annie had to reincarnate because of Heaven’s rules about sin, with Chris volunteering to go with her despite the consequences being that he’ll be alone for 40 years when she dies, with the couple agreeing to be reborn as babies, but it got cut.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Such a gorgeous movie!
