You Can Say That Again

A character says something, and another character will express agreement by saying "You Can Say That Again."

In comedy, the first character often takes it literally and really does say it again. Bonus points if the first character is a robot, who says it again because it is unable to catch the real meaning and interprets the statement as an order. Extra bonus points if the word the first character says again is "that."

• In Samurai Pizza Cats Guido almost does this joke, until Polly stops him by saying 'Guido!'

• Used in the Haruhi Suzumiya fanfic Kyon: Big Damn Hero when Kyon is taking out the garbage:

Kyon's father: Oh, da- Uh, shoot, I mean, I was going to do that. Kyon: Lost your excuse to sneak out and grab a smoke without mom noticing? Kyon's father: What she doesn't know won't hurt her. Kyon: You can say that again.

Film — Animated

• In Atlantis: The Lost Empire Kida sees something amazing and says the Atlantean equivalent of "wow!" Milo is also amazed, and saavy enough with the language to say "You can say that again!"

Film — Live Action

• In A Few Good Men, Tom Cruise's character trades clichés with the guy at his newsstand, resulting in this exchange:

Luther: It ain't over till the fat lady sings. Kaffee: You can say that again. Luther: It ain't over till the fat lady sings. Kaffee: (with him) Fat lady sings. I walked into that one.

• The Three Stooges in the short Micro-Phonies, as they see a beautiful woman:

Curly: My, ain't she pretty! Moe: Boy, you can say that again! Curly: My, ain't she pretty! Moe: Shut up! (slaps him)

• Occurred on a few occasions in The Tomorrow People, each time with someone "saying that again!".

Theater

• In Essgee's 1994 production of The Pirates of Penzance, the exchange is extended:

Sergeant: This is perplexing! Policemen: You can say that again. Sergeant: This is perplexing! Policemen: You can say that- Sergeant: AH! (Stares the others into silence)

Western Animation

• SpongeBob SquarePants: Spongebob utters the line in the episode "The Two Faces of Squidward", after Patrick says "We're not just neighbors...", and Patrick, as one might expect, follows through.
